Let's Pretend

Let’s Pretend does just that, invites children to pretend with performers who journey through magical forests, meet beautiful maidens and witches, and even hear Puss in Boots outsmart the countryside. The Let’s Pretend stories were first presented to young listeners and studio audiences in 1934 and have been listening treasures ever since.

For 20 years, from 1934 to 1954, families gathered for half an hour every Saturday to hear the host of Let’s Pretend introduce a new story. Many of the stories in this magical land of make-believe were newly created, but the fairy tales adapted for the program are familiar, written by story-telling masters the likes of Hans Christian Anderson and the Brothers Grimm. Let’s Pretend delivered a unique form of entertainment for youngsters, however. Instead of adults telling stories to children, the shows were dramatic productions with all the roles played by children.
