Fibber McGee and Molly

At 79 Wistful Vista in the tiny town of Wistful Vista, Fibber McGee is causing a stir, working on an invention or searching for something to do, and that means our forever-patient Molly has to rescue him again. The rich cast of characters includes Mr. Wimple, the wimpy bird watcher, the McGees’ friend and needler, Doc Gamble, Mayor LaTrivia, who can be befuddled by Fibber just for stopping by, and Teeny, the little girl across the street who always wins in a confused conversation with Fibber.

Fibber McGee and Molly appeared in 1935 when the comedy was first aired on radio, and listeners laughed at Fibber’s antics for more than 24 years. Husband and wife team Jim and Marian Jordan who played Fibber and Molly provided humorous respites that helped families through the Great Depression and the agonizing times of World War II. The exquisitely written scripts included occasional history lessons for listeners today – rationing, victory gardens, metal and paper collected to make munitions, presidential elections and a peek at times when no one locked doors, everyone was a neighbor, and entire communities rallied for a cause. The humor is still fresh, the comedy is timeless, and the McGees are still making us laugh.
